For the past five years, I’ve been chatting with random teenagers and collecting an extensive collection of slang words. It all started when my friend asked me
“Neathen after work we are having a barbeque at mom’s house. Are you gonna REACH?”
I replied, “REACH for what?”
He said, “I mean are you coming over?”
I laughed for weeks – until I found myself saying REACH in a sentence. Suddenly realizing that for the first time I was stuck in a time machine going backwards in age like Benjamin Button. How could this happen to a literary agent like myself?

Easily, It’s fun. 

Speaking using slang terminology has the unique way of enhancing the emotion within the language.
To a teenager it’s like encrypting their speech around their parents. In addition, slang sounds best when its accompanied by swear words and used in a rude way.
Below are the top used urban slang words we’ve collected over the last five years.
We eliminated multiple words that didn’t stay relevant in pop culture – these are the best of the best.

BASIC
Definition: A person or object that is average, boring, common, typical, mediocre and/or dull.

Example
You: “Can you believe I fell asleep in the theater while watching Mad Max?”
Me: “Yes I can. Cuz you’re a BASIC bitch.
Who falls asleep while watching sexy Tom Hardy? Gurl you’re forever BASIC”.

I CAN’T EVEN
Definition: Means to be “Speechless”.

Example
Me: “I CAN’T EVEN deal. Kyle purposed last night and Susan was explaining her reaction to me… It was priceless because I was rolling on the floor laughing.”
You: “Lies, what happened?”
Me: “Sorry, I CAN’T EVEN, it was just soo funny! You had to be there.”

BARE
Definition: A lot / lots of / multiple.

Example
Me: “Did you see James ears at Goodlife gym yesterday?”
You: “No, why?”
Me: “He’s got BARE piercings. Brah has like fifty piercings bro.
What the hell? He looked like he had chrome headphones on… Ha!”

YASSS
Definition: Super Yes / of course / Hell yeah.

Example
You: “Are both you and Angie going to Paris with us?”
Me: “YASSS boss. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

BIBLE
Definition: ‘Swear-to-God’ / You Promise / telling the absolute truth.

Example
Me: “Danny said if we detail his car he will pay us $80 bucks each.”
You: “Lies, say BIBLE.”
Me: “I swear bro, BIBLE! He pulled out the cash.”

THROWING SHADE
[THREW SHADE]
Definition: To give someone major attitude.
To expose someone’s flaws while giving major attitude.

Example
You: “Did you see Sue-Anne in the Sears lineup on Friday arguing with that big burly lady?
It was hilarious, she THREW SHADE on the girl.”
Me: “Well lately she’s been a bit cray cray because she came into work on Saturday THROWING SHADE on Sara.”

[TURNT UP]
Definition: Means excited, hyped up, crazy and/or outrageous.

Example
“Dan’s block party on Friday was TURNT UP”

YEET
Definition: If we could yell ‘Yes, Extremely Excited in a Text’ message it would be a ‘YEET’.
It’s like a silent person, yelling with excitement.

Example
“Did you see Meaghan’s feet at Wasaga Beach? YEET! Girl needs a pedicure stat.”

“I just won $500.00 with my cash for life lottery ticket. YEET.”

SQUAD
Definition: A group of friends. More than two people. The ‘Clique’ or ‘Crew’.

Example
“The SQUAD is on-point tonight. Black-on-black crimes. Black pants, black socks, black shirt, black tie and black everythin’ yeah heard.”

EPIC FAIL Definition: Super bad / the ultimate failure / impossible to recover / no way out.

Definition: Acronym – My Reaction When.

Example
“MRW Randy farts.” (Paired with a GIF on Instagram of a cat running into a glass door).

SOOF
Definition: Acronym – Swear On Our Friendship. (This slang has replaced the old phrase “Say Word”).

Example
Me: “I will buy your ticket to the Jay Z concert this summa’ if you ask Katie to give me her digits.”
You: “SOOF?”
Me: “I SOOF!”
You: “Jeah Boss!”

CRAY CRAY
Definition: An extremely crazy person, place or object.

Example
“I don’t know how Kanye dated Amber Rose? That gurl is CRAY CRAY.
Must have been the sex. You know it was on fleek. Eww. Ha!”

DEAD
Definition: Hilarious / no words can express / incredibly funny.

Rules
Usually used with a hashtag #DEAD or as a one-word sentence ending with an exclamation mark.

Example
“I just watched the Justin Bieber Roast. #DEAD!”

DAMP
[SO DAMP]
Definition: When you finish something that was tiresome or long. Exhausting or emotionally ‘draining’.

Rules
Doesn’t necessarily mean negatively exhausting.
Also used to express excitement over something lengthy in a positive way.

Example
“Bonnie I can’t believe I sat and watched Avatar again with you for the 3rd time. Bitch that movie is SO DAMP.”

and/or

“Deadmao5 set in Coachella was DAMP yogi. Yeet bruva!”

SALTY
Definition: A person, who is rude, pissed off, angry and/or gives attitude.

Example
“I love Cam when he’s SALTY. He bitch-snaps and does a twirl, loves it.”

Definition A: “Get out of here” / “Get lost”
Definition B: When you’re about to use your amazing dating skills to get a new girl (or guy).

Example
“I was on the bus with Zack and this cunt was all up in my space. Ugh, SWERVE bitch.”

“Angelina text me and said that Mariah is single now. Umma bout to SWERVE, watch dis.”

Definition: Acronym – Before Anyone Else – Substituted for the word Baby or Babe.

DIPPING AND DIVING
Definition A: Cheating while in a committed relationship.
Definition B: A personality that’s shady. A fraudulent personality. The act of Lying.

Rules
These two phrases are interchangeable and have the same general meaning. Dipping and diving is usually linked to sexual deviation.

Example
“Craig was at the Woodbine racetrack with Stacy. When she went to the bathroom, I blinked my eyes and there he was 
WHEELIN’ n DEALIN’.”

and/or

“I seen you with that hoe Laura on Wednesday.
See you’re DIPPIN’ n DIVIN’.”

DAFAQ
Definition: What-the-Fuck?

Rules
Generally used in public and on public forums where swearing is prohibited and unacceptable.
Considered a polite way of swearing.

Example
“What is that smell Tom? What did you put in the microwave? DAFAQ Tom, shit man! Why are you eating fish at work?”

Definition: Acronym – You Only Live Once.

Example

Definition: To attend an event. To go somewhere.

Example
You: “After work we’re having a barbeque at mom’s house. Are you gonna REACH?”
Me: “I’m down.”

LACE UP
Definition: Get ready to accomplish something big.

Example
“Iggy Azalea betta LACE UP, calling herself a better rapper than Nicki Minaj. I see this queen bitch about to go ham. Don’t do it Iggy.”

Definition: Really, really!

Example
“This Jerk chicken is HELLA good. Here try some.
Don’t forget the sauce.”

SOFT
Definition: A person that is weak, or afraid. An event that is boring and/or low attendance.

Example
Me: “Do you think the Jonas Brothers concert is gonna be anything like the Coldplay gig?”
You: “Nah, Bro their SOFT.”

Definition A:  An ugly person, place and/or thing.
Definition B: A disaster / a mess / drunk behavior.

Definition: Being stylish and/or having an individual (unique) style.

Definition: Refers to an extremely horny, clingy, desperate and/or sexually passionate person.

You: “That’s cuz she’s a THIRSTY bitch. Damn, it ain’t easy being single. Love her.”
Me: “Seriously she is soo THIRSTY, Chris just left her yesterday! The THIRST is real.”

GHOST
[GHOSTING]
Definition: A person who has disappeared.

Rules
GHOST: Is generally referenced about a person who’s social media presence suddenly and inexplicably goes quiet (abnormal absence of activity) and has no activity. Often this person is simply busy and is not doing this intentionally.

GHOSTING: Is intentionally deleting all social media – changing all social media handles and changing phone numbers etc… All with the purpose to hide from a person or group of people.

Example
Me: “What happened to Mandy and Sonia? These bitches are GHOSTING.
I tried to call Sonia and she changed her phone number.
I emailed Mandy and I got a failed delivery notification. WTF!”
You: “Well they both went GHOST on Twitter two weeks ago, so I knew they would be GHOSTING soon.”
Me: “They need to relax, their Twitter was lame anyway. Over it!”

BYE FELICIA
Definition: Means “Goodbye Nobody” and/or “Goodbye Loser”.

Rules
The name Felicia is substituted instead of the real name of the person who’s being spoken to. This signifies that ‘no one cares’ the person is leaving. When used on a male it’s also a way of calling them ‘chicken’ [scared-to-participate] or a ‘loser’. 
FYI: Popularly used on the VINE ™ app.

Example
Me: “Yo, Kyle! Bro, are you gonna have another beer?”
You: “Nah brov, I have to work tomorrow morning… early”.
Me: “Sure, Whatever… BYE FELICIA”.

SLAYING
[SLAYED]
Definition: Having or had sex with someone who you’re not dating.

Example
Me: “I can’t let Jessica catch me SLAYING Julie. She’s crazy – she’d cut my balls off.”
You: “Bro you SLAYED it on Saturday in a Hotel in Toronto, Jessica is in New York, you’re fine!”

Definition:  To place extra emphasis on something or someone.

Definition: Agree to do something / agree to attend an event or go somewhere.

Example

Definition: Yes, it’s good / agree with / the truth.

Example
“Whenever I listen to Depeche Mode I get so happy. STYLL.”

RACHET
Definition: An ugly, dirty, rude, loud, ghetto and/or obnoxious person.

Rules
Girls are usual the reference point of this term.
Males are rarely referred to as rachet.
Often used to describe ugly, dirty hair and over-sexed slutty behavior.

“Kandi was twerking behind the school today. What a RACHET hoe!”

Definition: To fully agree / to agree 100%.
